Travel Q & A
Q: My husband and I have been to Cuba three times, twice to Holguin, and once to Varadero. We love Cuba, and adored our holidays there but would like to try something different this year. Price is a consideration too.
Our interests are a little different, my partner loves to dive, and I love sunning and getting a little culture by visiting a city and hanging out at cafes.
However, it’s my turn to pick the destination and hotel.

A: I can think of a couple of places, both quite different. Nolitours is offering Santa Lucia in Camaguey. It is a bit of a secret that it has the best diving in Cuba, with over 35 diving sites for him to choose from. You’ll like the beaches, 21 kilometres of white sand to walk on, and turquoise water to play in. The coral reef 3 km. from the shore means you’ll have calm swimming. Just an hour away is the historic city of Camaguey, surrounded by large pastures. You’ll swear you’ve moved back in time, as you’ll see every kind of transportation from ox carts to buses. Best of all, the people are very friendly, love to show you what they’re doing and delight in posing for pictures.
When I was at the 3 + star Cameleon Brisas Santa Lucia last year, I ran into a young couple on their honeymoon who were having a great time. The bride said “I’m so glad we chose this place, because we didn’t have lots of money to spend and the honeymoon special is great! I can guarantee we’ll be back.”
Beautiful Cayo Largo might be another choice. This is a barefoot holiday paradise, where you can just kick back and relax. Again there is diving and snorkelling and the beaches are stunning with cool white sand to walk on. The 4-star Cameleon Barcelo Cayo Largo Beach Resort would be a good choice as well.
