(NC)-When it comes to service, quality, reliability and great value in a holiday to Cuba, one name stands head and shoulders above the rest: Sol Melia.

Cuba’s Cayo Coco is renowned for its ivory coloured pristine beaches of soft sand with lots of romantic hideaways, and all inclusive TRYP Cayo Coco is right there serving up generous portions of sun and fun. With six restaurants and six bars, you’ll have lots of choices. Nearby sister hotel, Sol Cayo Guillermo, also on the beach, is a snorkeler’s paradise located only 2 kilometres from a stunning coral reef.

If you’re looking for a little more action, check out the fabulous Sol Sirenas Coral Resort, right on famed Varadero Beach. With 24 hour snacks and drinks, lots of facilities and infinite activities, you’ll run out of holiday time long before you’ll run out of great ways to use it.

If scuba’s your thing, you’ll want to explore the incomparable beaches and phenomenal underwater world of Cayo Largo. Here, among sunken ships and coral reefs, Sol Cayo Largo and Sol Pelicano reign supreme.

Finally, Sol Rio de Luna y Mares Resort weighs in with 24 hour all inclusive, activities galore, and an enviable beachfront location in Holguin’s beautiful Bahia Naranjo National Park.

Nolitours offers frequent winter departures to several Cuban gateways; full details are available online at www.nolitours.com.

Q: My husband and I have been to Cuba three times, twice to Holguin, and once to Varadero. We love Cuba, and adored our holidays there but would like to try something different this year. Price is a consideration too.

Our interests are a little different, my partner loves to dive, and I love sunning and getting a little culture by visiting a city and hanging out at cafes.

However, it’s my turn to pick the destination and hotel.

E.O. (Toronto, Ont.)

Â

A: I can think of a couple of places, both quite different. Nolitours is offering Santa Lucia in Camaguey. It is a bit of a secret that it has the best diving in Cuba, with over 35 diving sites for him to choose from. You’ll like the beaches, 21 kilometres of white sand to walk on, and turquoise water to play in. The coral reef 3 km. from the shore means you’ll have calm swimming. Just an hour away is the historic city of Camaguey, surrounded by large pastures. You’ll swear you’ve moved back in time, as you’ll see every kind of transportation from ox carts to buses. Best of all, the people are very friendly, love to show you what they’re doing and delight in posing for pictures.

When I was at the 3 + star Cameleon Brisas Santa Lucia last year, I ran into a young couple on their honeymoon who were having a great time. The bride said “I’m so glad we chose this place, because we didn’t have lots of money to spend and the honeymoon special is great! I can guarantee we’ll be back.”

Beautiful Cayo Largo might be another choice. This is a barefoot holiday paradise, where you can just kick back and relax. Again there is diving and snorkelling and the beaches are stunning with cool white sand to walk on. The 4-star Cameleon Barcelo Cayo Largo Beach Resort would be a good choice as well.
