(ARA) – After a long winter of hard work, inclement weather, schoolbooks and bad news on the economy, who couldn’t use a break this summer? The recession probably has many American families reconsidering their summer vacation plans, but with some smart travel strategies, it is possible for the whole family to enjoy a budget-friendly summer getaway.

“Travel bargains will abound this summer, especially for families who look for value-focused destinations,” says Brad Dean, president and chief executive officer of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce. “Like any other industry, tourism has seen a lot of belt-tightening among travelers; however hotels, attractions and communities are eager to woo summer travelers with great deals and incentives that push their dollars further.”

Here are five tips for making the most of your summer vacation dollars:

1. Demand the most — If past summer vacations have consisted of a single destination with just a handful of attractions nearby, look for more value-focused locations this year. You may only be able to afford a single trip, or perhaps just a long weekend this summer, so you should look for a destination where you will be able to make every minute meaningful. From amusement parks and museums, to parks and recreation, look for a location with the greatest variety of accommodations, attractions, dining and shopping venues your budget allows.

2. Find the freebies — True, traveling during peak demand times like the July 4th holiday may mean a higher room rate, but in locations like Myrtle Beach it also means free entertainment. Popular destinations often host free events and celebrations throughout the summer, and especially on holiday weekends like Memorial Day, July 4 and Labor Day. Instead of paying to see an attraction, you can enjoy these events for free. Myrtle Beach area communities host dozens of free festivals and events each summer, from a traditional Fourth of July boat parade to the famed Sun Fun Festival.

3. Don’t spend on the commute — One of the biggest dents your summer travel budget can take is the cost of the commute. Flying may still be the fastest way to go, but it’s also still the most expensive. Although gas prices are creeping up across the country, it will still be much cheaper to drive to your destination this summer than it was last year, putting the cost of travel within the reach of more families in 2009. Look for destinations that are within driving distance of home. Myrtle Beach, for example, is easily accessible from much of the east coast and Midwest. Driving will also save on car rental costs.

4. Think alternative accommodations — Who wouldn’t love to stay in a luxury five-star hotel for a week every summer, but who can afford it in this economy? Be open to alternative accommodations, and seek out destinations that have a variety of accommodation types. If you usually book two or three rooms when you travel with the kids and grandparents, it may be cheaper to book a suite or rent a vacation home for a week. Additionally, check with your accommodations to see what kinds of package deals they have available.

“Many hotels partner with local attractions, making it easy to cut costs and keep everything all-inclusive,” says Dean. “Myrtle Beach in particular is chock-full of accommodations that include everything from amusement parks to theatre shows in the price of the hotel package. It’s a great way to save a few dollars here and there.” Another way to cut costs is to choose accommodations with a kitchenette so you can save money by preparing your own meals instead of eating out the entire trip.

5. Don’t wait to make your move — Travel experts agree: book now. Prices rarely fall as the season gets into full swing. Booking early, when hotels and attractions are eager to draw business, can save you a bundle. “Once high season arrives, you may find higher prices and lower availability,” Dean predicts.

Filled with an endless variety of diverting activities, the Myrtle Beach Area has something to offer every interest no matter what the budget parameters. To learn more about festivals, accommodations and attractions in the Myrtle Beach Area, go to www.VisitMyrtleBeach.com.

(ARA) – When faced with financial challenges like those posed by the recent economic downturn, American families tend to react to their decreased discretionary dollars by getting “back to basics.” They pursue different leisure activities and ones that offer quality time that can bring them closer together.

While the jury is still out on exactly how many families will forgo their traditional, theme park destination vacation in lieu of a “staycation” — the more eco-friendly option that is closer to home — for those that do, they will find plenty of good news. Not only can staying closer to home be fun, but it’s relatively inexpensive, too. And unlike the typical blow-out summer vacation, staying close to home takes only a little bit of sensible planning, imagination and budget.

One of the best imaginable staycations for families is a return to the great American camping experience. For those who really enjoy roughing it, there are terrific products out there, but if you are among those who are shedding the conveniences of a hotel room for the first time and are seeking a more comfortable experience, consider these top tips for an incredible camping trip:

1. Pick the right campsite.
Backyard or backwoods? Chances are, your backyard is a wonderland that you’ve never truly experienced, and camping there allows you to do so without forfeiting your creature comforts. And it’s free, making this a great first option. But if you’re in the mood for a little more adventure and the idea of getting away inspires you, check out your local campgrounds and parks at koa.com or reserveamerica.com. Many campsites are available, including prime waterfront sites if the deep woods are not your thing, with basic fees of less than $20 per night.

2. Choose the right gear.
Borrow or buy? If you’re staycationing for the first time, borrowing camping gear from a friend is a great idea. It will allow you to try it out without risk and gain a better idea of what features you like when it does come time for you to buy. If you are ready to buy, remember that although purchasing gear is the most expensive part of camping, it is just a one-time expense and with care, your gear will last for years to come at little or no additional cost.

Whether you’re going to be staying at a local campground or in your own backyard, choosing a quality tent is key. Resist the temptation to buy an inexpensive one; with tents, you typically get what you pay for, and if your bargain tent ends up leaking during a sudden storm, you’ll regret the entire experience and be less likely to camp again. To be safe, avoid discount stores and choose a tent from a well-known manufacturer. When shopping, remember that size is very important, too; manufacturers typically list tent sizes according to how many sleeping bags or camp pads can fit inside, so if you need to store extra gear, you’re better off choosing a tent that sleeps more people than you need or that includes added storage space. Consider the Eureka! N!ergy tent — it incorporates a 12-volt wiring harness and when used with the E! Power Pak (sold separately); it powers 12-volt accessories like lights, fans, radios, and cell phone chargers inside. Available in three sizes, it sleeps anywhere from four to 10 people. Visit www.epowertent.com for more information.

Sleeping bags go a long way to bring added comfort and convenience to a camping trip. When purchasing, look for bags that are rated to the lowest temperature you’re likely to see and let the kids take part in the selection; there are several fun and colorful sleeping bags sized just for them on the market. To make the campsite more user-friendly and comfortable, consider adding camp pads beneath your sleeping bag and additional furniture such as tables, folding hammocks, cots and chairs. Visit www.eurekatents.com for more information.

3. Bring the right essentials and be creative.
With the destination set and the gear selected, the rest of the essentials can be quite simple for a brief weekend trip, and often they’re items you already have at home. So, be creative. For example, because camping makes even the most mundane chores fun, even the kids will want to help, so make cooking a family affair by bringing your own portable grill and easy camp recipes from the Web. Let the kids share in the cooking fun by toasting marshmallows and making s’mores for dessert. For personal care, most family campgrounds offer basic amenities, although sometimes they can be limited, so stick to bringing the basic toiletries but skip the extras, like blow dryers. Lastly, remember to bring these inexpensive items that become absolutely priceless in the outdoors: first aid kit, flashlight, pocket knife, charcoal and starter fuel, trash bags, dish soap and for the kids — cards, books, board games and ghost stories for having fun no matter what the weather brings.

Whenever you are planning a vacation to someplace that you have never been to before, such as Spain, it is always best to try and use discount spain travel sites in order to get the best deal. As it is, these trips can be very expensive, but if the right steps are taken, you could save yourself a lot of money. That difference in savings could be what allows someone on a tight budget the ability to take their trip. For others, it will allow them more spending money for while they are in Spain.

When a traveler uses discount spain travel sites, it is really a win-win situation for everyone involved. With these discounts, Spain will get more travelers than they would not otherwise have seen if there were not discounts available.

And on the other end of the spectrum, it allows the travelers more money to be allotted for dining and purchasing gifts and such while visiting. This is good for everyone involved and that is why there are so many discount spain travel sites to look through and to book your vacations through. There are a lot of discounts to be found if you just do enough looking on the web.

Where To Find Them

The best way to find discount spain travel sites are through the personal referrals of your friends, family, and co-workers who have either booked through them before or at least did extensive research on them. These people are going to be more willing to give you honest advice on which ones are great to go through and which ones you should avoid. They will also have the information to get you hooked up directly to the site so that you do not end up on a site that is the opposite of what you want.

If you do not know anyone who has either visited Spain recently through discount spain travel sites then you could always just start researching on your own on the Internet. Pay special attention to what reviews and comments you find from other tourists in regards to their experience with the company. If you are seeing too many complaints about certain discount spain travel sites, then you are not going to want to use those sites. You want to make sure that you are getting your money’s worth so pay attention to what their previous customers have to say about them.

It seems that one of the major unknowable travel costs is food. You have to eat, but it’s impossible to know where the next meal will come from, especially on a road trip. It’s not that food is hard to find on the road. It is readily available everywhere you turn. The hard thing to know is what it will cost when it’s all added up in the end. It can also be difficult to maintain healthy eating habits while traveling and our ability to enjoy ourselves therefore suffers. If you are traveling on a budget and you still want to make good food choices, these tips will help you save money while still eating well on the road.

1. Experience Some Local Color

When you arrive in a new city and it’s time for lunch, don’t just stop at a chain restaurant that you recognize. To get better prices, try out a local business for your meal. The local restaurants are able to charge less because they advertise less than nationally known restaurants. They also have more options for ordering in their food so they can do better with overhead. Besides the cost though, trying out a local restaurant will more often than not give you a reason to come back to the city you’ve visited.

2. Pack Your Lunch

When you are starting out on your trip, bring a sandwich, some crackers and a bottle of juice. You already have all of the ingredients to make yourself a nutritious lunch so you can avoid the quick fast food stop and the greasy airport food. You won’t regret having something to munch when you’ve been on the road for a little while. If you are traveling with friends, you may want to bring a little extra to share.

3. Grocery Stores

Another great way to make sure you are getting good nutrition for a low cost on the road is to stop at a grocery store. For a couple of dollars you can get a piece of fruit, a bottle of water, a roll and some cheese. There are many more options than that at a grocery store too. Fresh produce is a luxury while traveling. Things like granola bars are good to keep in the car or your back pack for unforeseen snacking needs. There’s plenty of ready to eat food at prices that restaurants cannot compete with.

4. Split Plates

Vacation is the ideal time to start sharing plates with a companion. Restaurants almost always serve up too much food for a single person to comfortably eat. Since you can’t take a doggy bag on the road anyway, split the dinner. You’ll save yourself some money, and probably a stomachache. Who knows? You may even decide that you’ve got room and money enough for dessert every once in awhile.

5. Drink Water

A final great way to save money on the road is to order water when you are out to eat. It will cut down on your ticket quite a bit to eliminate the drink cost. Also, it is easy to get dehydrated while you are traveling and away from your normal routine of getting a drink now and then. Getting water into your system is a good idea whenever you have the chance. Since bottled water is expensive, order water at the restaurant and refill your bottle for the road while you are there.

Food is a major traveling cost. Since it is hard to budget accurately for what you will need to eat on the road, follow the simple guidelines above. Doing so will help you spend a less expensive vacation. While you are saving money on food, you will also be making good choices to make your trip more enjoyable. You will feel better if you eat healthier.

While backpacking across Europe used to be possible for dollars a day, it seems that such a possibility doesn’t exist any more. As the ancient continent has become more appreciated for its beauty and diversity, the prices have responded. While there are still hostels for reasonable prices as well as markets and bakeries for cheaper food, there are plenty more opportunities to spend quite a bit. What it seems is most difficult to do is to see the sights without blowing your budget out of sight. There are charges to see many of the most famous pieces of architecture and art–it is true. Luckily, there have been some magnificent prizes left open to the public for free. Read below to find out about many of the opportunities, for seeing and doing, that are still possible on a budget in Europe.

1. Castles

There are many castles in Germany that do charge an entrance fee, as they should. The castles are beautiful and so unique that it is worth some money to get to see the inside. To look at them for free, just take a driving tour. Also, it will be worth your time to investigate lesser-known castles. These are often open to the public for a less involved walking tour. Don’t expect to have access to every part, but while just asking for donations, the proprietors of several not so famous castles are more than happy to let you take a peek.

2. Historic Sites

Europe has a rich history that many Americans are not accustomed to. Since the United States is only a couple of hundred years old, a native will be astounded at the incredible age of the relics in Europe. The Roman Forum dates back to the founding of Rome. As the commercial center of the city, it is built as a masterpiece. You can go for free and imagine the hustling people all over the stonework.

3. Museums

There are a plethora of museums all over Europe because there is so much to know about the many countries within it. Like the castles though, many museums cover information about such famous events or people that they must charge to work a little bit of crowd control. Try looking into small towns and villages though and you’ll be sure to stumble onto a local history museum that won’t cost anything but the time it is well worth.

4. Walks

It’s true that you can even be charged to walk up, around or to some places in Europe. There are a few select choices, though, that are still available for free. Going on some walks will lead you to a magnificent view or a fascinating history. The famous Roman road is usually opened up to traffic, but on Sundays, cars cannot travel this historical pathway. On that day, free of charge, you can walk the road and discover old treasures along the way.

5. Festivals

Read a Shakespeare comedy and you will know about Europe and celebrations. During special times of the year, you can join the festivities. There are of course charges for food and games, but watching the spectacular sight of traditional celebration is free to anyone who would like to enjoy it.

6. Beautiful Architecture

Europe is home to some of the most beautiful and varied architecture in the world. Because the historic buildings span such a large amount of time, the architecture makes up a cornucopia of dazzling sights. Walk down any street and you will appreciate the incredible construction, but none of it will compare to the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. This structure is open to the public for outside and inside views.

7. Exhibitions

As in any country, the countries in Europe are ever changing and developing. Because of the history and background of Europe, there are many developing artists still residing in the various art hubs. If you happen to run into an advertised display for a new artist, enjoy the treat of something new that has come out of something old. These are almost always free unless you decide to buy a piece.

8. Art Galleries

It is not just the developing art that you can see for free. Some ancient displays are also available for anyone to visit. Nicola Salvi’s fountains are always open to the public. While you are in Rome, don’t miss this beautiful display of a master’s work.

9. Habits of Royalty

The London Guard is a famous entity. It has been personified hundreds of times in movies, but nothing compares to actually seeing the serious and incredibly professional changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace. This event is also free to the public.

10. Other Unusual Events

Don’t fill up your schedule all the way when you visit Europe. The continent is full of such diverse and rich cultural experiences, that there is sure to be something new happening all the time. Look online for regional celebrations in the area you will be visiting. While you are there, just keep your eyes and ears open for news of something going on.

There are many more things to do in Europe for free than those listed here. Depending on where exactly you plan to visit, there will be local attractions perfect for your trip and budget. The one thing to keep in mind about free attractions is that they do cost some time. Crowds fill up the space quickly, so make sure to keep your schedule flexible. You are on vacation after all!

The mode of transportation chosen must be to your convenience and yet at the same time affordable to adhere to your budget. This is to ensure that you have sufficient balance to spend on accommodation, food and entertainment. Rail Pass is basically traveling through a single or multiple countries by train at a discounted rate. The Rail Pass is commonly used by travelers in European countries but now Asian countries such as Japan and Malaysia also offer similar types of rail passes in an effort to promote tourism.

Traveling with a rail pass is much better rather than driving in terms of cost as other than fuel there are other extra expenses such as parking fees and maintenance of the car that need to be considered. Damage or breakdown of your vehicle could cost you a bond and delay, which will cause you to exceed your budget, whilst with a rail pass all you have to do is board the train, and you are on your way. Driving may not be the most comfortable mode of transportation especially if there are children traveling along with you. Rail pass only charges half the price of adults for children in other words a 50% discount is given and it will be easier to manage children in the train compared to a cramped up car.

You can also minimize on the cost for accommodation as with the rail pass you can sleep or take a rest in the train. Board the train during the night to get your sleep and you can continue to go for sight seeing during the day thus it saves you the money that you might have spent on a hotel.

Since railways are always located in cities or major towns in a country, you will be able to obtain all the necessary information needed as a tourist. Accommodations and public transportation are usually available quite near the railway stations thus you don’t have to spend unnecessarily on traveling costs to locate suitable lodging. Plus you will be able to obtain useful information on lodging and food from your fellow travelers on the train that will aid you in selecting lodging and food at a reasonable price.

There are various types of rail pass available to cater for the needs of each individuals but primarily they all have one thing in common that is it allows you to save money on your traveling expenditures. It is important that you decide on the type of pass that will suit you best to avoid any disappointments later as the passes can’t be canceled and are not refundable.

If time is vital to you than choose a pass that will allow you to travel for a continuous period of time such as a month. You will pay a one-time fee and will be able to use the pass unlimitedly during the specified stated period of time on the pass. On the other hand, if you want to travel at a slower pace choose a pass that provides for occasional traveling by train. This is known as the Flexi pass. Finally, if you want to travel in a group consisting of two to five persons than the Saver pass is your ideal choice. The pass will contain all the names of the individuals in the group but it is not necessary that they should always travel together as they can always opt to travel by another mode of transportation thus allowing flexibility.

Rail passes offers you the choice to travel in a single country or you can choose to travel in two to three countries. Rail passes are cost effective as they are the only mode of transportation that allows you to travel in more than one country at a discounted rate. It also saves your time and is more convenient.

Most of us travel once or twice a year but it may not be the vacation you have always dreamt about due to your budget. You try to save as much as you can on the lodging and airfare expenses by looking out for discounts and special offers. When you travel as a family your expenses are greater and usually you would have scrimped and saved the whole year to have a wonderful vacation with your family.

What if you had a passion for traveling that is so intense that you choose it as your profession? Would you be able to benefit more due to your profession? Tour guides are offered special discount on travel products but there are limitations to their benefits as well, but the point to highlight here is that they get to travel at a much cheaper rate compared an ordinary person.

Tour guides need to have sufficient knowledge on hotels, food, local culture, airfare rates, nightlife activities of a particular destination before they can actually promote or recommend it to travelers. They need to have in depth knowledge to ensure that they will obtain positive feedback to secure a healthy development in their career. Therefore tour guides usually take trips to familiarize themselves with a particular hotel, Air Flight Company and so forth to review the standard of the services provided. These kinds of trips could be free of charge or it would at a minimal cost, as the vendor needs the help of tour guides to establish a reputation in the market.

Their profession as a tour guide allows them to obtain special discounts and rates on accommodations, airfare and other travel related expenses on personal trips. The discount that they obtain is quite attractive that has caused the profession of tour guides to be desirable in the market. The best part is that they are accountable for these discounts when they travel as a family, which allows them to save a large amount of money making the trip really cheap.

As a tour guide, you would have traveled to various parts of the globe and would have become accustomed with the local culture and way of life in a particular country. When you decide to travel on your own you save money because you know where to stay, shop and dine. You will be able to know places that charge reasonable rates and avoid from paying exorbitant prices for goods and services. You would also be well versed in foreign languages thus enabling you to bargain for discounts. In short you would be your own tour guide and this would allow you to cut down on your expenses.

Becoming a tour guide and traveling all the time would enable you to have friends all over the world. Thus this could secure you a warm welcome when you decide to travel and visit your acquaintances at the same time. They might offer you free lodging and food when you are in the neighbor hood. Imagine how much you would be able to save, as accommodations can be costly. You could use their vehicles to travel around eliminating the need to use public transportation.

Your experience as a tour guide will ensure that you travel at the right time of the year so that your travel budget will be lower. You would be able to avoid peak seasons and focus on promotions and discounts, which you would be well informed of. The nature of your job stresses that you provide quality service to customers and this is the reason why certain tour guides specialize on a particular group of people such as newly wedded couples, senior citizens or family outing. Specialization means you will have to pay extra attention to every detail in the trip so that the customer is well satisfied making you an expert thus allowing you to save more money during your trip.

Road trip is where you travel by car, driving from one destination to another. Usually college students prefer to go on road trips together by driving their own car or by renting a car from a travel agency. Before undertaking a road trip it is important that you plan carefully to ensure that you don’t overspend. The destination selected must be at a reasonable distance so that you don’t tire yourself down. There are some tips that you can observe and apply so that you can cut down on your expenses whilst traveling on the road.

Since you will be driving you would have to spend on fuel, which can be costly due to the increase in fuel price. You can lower your fuel expenses by practicing useful tips such as maintaining a same level of pressure in both your car tires by constantly checking the amount of air in the tires. It is better to drive with open windows and avoid using the air-conditioner when you drive, as it will lessen your fuel consumption. Always maintain a moderate driving speed and do not accelerate at a higher speed, as it will take up large quantity of your fuel. You can use your credit card to fill up for fuel, as there could be some special discount available so you can cash out on your rebates.

It is wise to bring your own food as restaurants and fast food is not only unhealthy but is costly at the same time. You can bring snacks, canned food; make sandwiches and so forth to cut done your expenses. Bringing along food reduces the times that you would need to stop to purchase refreshments thus making your trip shorter allowing you to save more. If you get bored with your home cooked food you can eat out but try to get the advice of locals to find delicious yet reasonable priced food.

When you go on a road trip, you can invite your close friends to join you and the expenses can be split among yourselves. Therefore you don’t have to bear the costs alone but by sharing the cost you would be able to lower your costs as much as 50%. So you can travel at a cheaper rate and not feel bored at the same time plus you would have a sense of security with your friends around.

In the event you don’t have a car of your own, your next course of action would be to rent a car through the travel agency. Most of the time you will be persuaded by the agent to take up insurance to protect the car, which will cause your budget to increase. So pay for the rental of the car with your credit cards, as you will be insured automatically.

Traveling during off-season is an excellent way to save money on a road trip as fuel price would be lower and there would be lesser traffic on the road. The decline on the number of tourist will leave vendors desperate for clients thus you would be able to obtain hotel rooms at a lower rate.

You can adapt your car according to your lifestyle by adding curtains for your car and using it as your lodging from time to time. Occasionally you can spend the night in your car if you can’t find suitable lodging. Since you are traveling by the road, it is an excellent location for motels and hostels which are much more cheaper than hotels. If you love the outdoors you can also camp out for a night or two.

Check on the price of gas, lodging and parking fees beforehand on the Internet to ensure that you do not overspend and stretch your budget. It is better to do your research on your destination to avoid sudden shock on high prices and to find that you so not have sufficient cash with you.

Look for places that offer free parking by interacting with the locals. Purchase tickets daily or on a weekly basis so that you will be given discounts on the price. Find out about museums that do not charge admission fees and as for national parks, it is advisable that you get an annual pass so you can visit anytime during the year.

Send your car for service and repair before going on a road trip to ensure the vehicle can withstand the pressure to travel the distance. This will allow you to know on the performance of your vehicle thus avoiding breakdowns and repair during the trip that can be expensive if end up towing the car all the way home.

Each time you enter a city or town, make sure to stop at the tourist center to take brochures on the local activities and places in the area. You would also be given discount coupons that you can use on lodging, food and parking.

So the 10 ways listed above is a guide as to how you can stretch your budget whilst you travel on a road trip.

How do you get great deals on airfare? Is the secret in the company you shop with? Not likely. It seems that no matter whose site you search through, the differences in flight costs don’t vary more than a few dollars, if they are different at all. What about timing? It certainly does matter when you buy your tickets, but you can’t make good enough predictions to rely on more than luck. Some airlines will, however, refund the difference of a ticket you bought earlier and the current, cheaper ticket price. The refund will be in airline vouchers though, so it’s not quite the same. To time the tickets you have to guess the expected turnout for tickets and the actual number of tickets that will be bought. If a flight is not selling well, then it will go on sale. Again, you can’t plan on that. Is there any aspect of flying and choosing the cheap flights that you can work with?

The easiest way to get cheap flights is to be flexible and to buy on the dates that are available on sale. One way to get really discounted fares is to buy at the last minute. Airlines always want to fill their planes, so when they haven’t filled up just before the time of departure, the ticket price will bottom out. What can you expect from these bargain tickets?

The one thing you should not count on is a straight shot. You will almost never find a non-stop flight at the last minute at a bargain. People are usually looking for non-stop flights. The people that don’t care about price will buy those tickets for sure. The people that have tight schedules are also going to want a non-stop flight to avoid the risk of delays and long layovers. If you want to go from Seattle to New York, and you need a great deal, try shopping last minute. Again though, don’t count on a straight shot. Expect to spend quite a bit of the day traveling, as stops generally mean layovers. The exchange though is that you can also expect a good deal. You really only need to decide if you would rather spend your time making money to buy the more expensive ticket or spend your time traveling through a new city.

Your best chance to find discounted or budget airline tickets is to choose departure and arrival cities that are hubs. If the airlines are going through those cities several times a day, you have several chances of finding a flight that is not booked and is therefore filling up for cheap. If you do need to get somewhere reliably and in a reasonable amount of time, you probably should not wait for last minute deals. You also should probably not expect to find budget rates to begin with on non-stop flights. The airlines can count on selling out on these, so you might as well plan on paying regular rates for them. If you are flexible in your timing though, try waiting for flights at bargain rates. You don’t even always have to wait until the last minute to find great deals as long as you’re willing to make a little detour and stop along the way. Expect long layovers on discounted flights. Expect them, but don’t hate them. Layovers allow you to experience another place for a little while. Airports are more and more stocked with things to do and see. You will probably be able to eat at a good restaurant, find a new book to read, or better yet, learn about the place you’ve stopped. You might even add a little more fun to your trip by taking the ‘scenic route’.

You might be under the perception that ski trips are only for the rich and famous because the locations are exclusive plus most ski lodges are expensive. All you need to do is to put in some effort and take a few smart steps and you will be able to ski on a budget yourself.

Rather than purchasing a ski trip package you could organize the whole trip yourself so it would be much cheaper. This will require some hard work from you, as you will have to be solely responsible for the trip so be extra careful. Surf the relevant websites and list out the prices of ski lodges, airfare expenses, equipment expenses and so forth, than highlight the cheapest price available and make your reservation. Therefore you can make your own package by selecting your own lodging and transportation provider.

Avoid going to ski lodges that are famous or popular as it will be very costly for you. This is because their customers are from the upper class of society that is wealthy plus in the effort to maintain their reputation these ski lodges tend to spend large amount of money on promoting the company to the public. Therefore you can opt to select a smaller ski lodge that is located in a remote or quiet place to suit your budget.

You need to have meals three times a day and the costs of food in most ski lodges are expensive. The ski trip should be given first priority so reduce your cost by bringing along your own food. Do not bring your family to any restaurants or pub, as the prices charged will be exorbitant. Bring along food that can be easily prepared without any hassle such as cereals, bread, fruits and other snacks. Enquire from the locals about the places that offer reasonably priced food. You can also cook your own meal if a kitchen is included as a part of the amenities.

If you are on a ski trip with your children, you need to bring along some indoor games, books and toys so that they have activities to be involved with before they go skiing. So they will be entertained and will not pester you for money to use in the games facilities in the ski lodge that are costly.

The time and location of the trip should be given consideration before making a reservation as it can seriously help lower your budget. Make sure you have a jump-start by making an early booking to enjoy discounts. Since ski trips are influenced by seasons schedule your trip when the season is about to start or end and benefit from amazing discounts. Select a location that is within your budget as certain European countries charge lesser compared to countries like Switzerland, which is the most expensive skiing location.

If you can purchase your own skiing gear rather than hiring the equipments from the lodge as the charges could be quite costly if you were to pay by the hours. As for the transportation charges you can lower it by booking a flight during weekdays rather than flying on weekends or holidays. Plus select smaller airports, as it would be cheaper compared to the reputable airports. Pay in advance or make reservation through the websites for your ski pass or snowboarding charges and you will be given discounts. It is wise to go on a ski trip during off-season and normal days, as the price will be more expensive during holidays.

Therefore, by conducting your own survey on ski lodges and the prices available, follow the smart moves stated above and a ski trip can be possible for you, too.
